After unveiling the Taurus-based Police Interceptor at the beginning of the year, the Blue Oval is back with another police offering, this time based on its latest SUV, the 2011 Explorer.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility will pack in all of the latest technologies and equipment from the civilian Explorer but add in a lot of extra functionality for US police officers.
This includes space for computers and standard equipment, revised front and rear seats, as well as improved systems like the braking or the suspension. The exterior has been fitted with various light bars on the roof and in the grille, while a bull bar ensures the added grunt on the front.
The Police Interceptor Utility will be available with the range-topping 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine, capable of 280 HP. It can be ordered in either front- or all-wheel drive.
Sadly, the new Police Interceptor Utility will enter production at the end of 2011, alongside the sedan Police Interceptor, when the iconic Crown Victoria will be retired.
