One of the great mysteries in the automotive universe has been revealed. We now know who The STIG is and who has been the source of many myths and stories on Top Gear since 2003: it’s Ben Collins, Formula 3, Le Mans and NASCAR racing pilot. The news has been confirmed by The Guardian and fans’ feelings worldwide are mixed up: we’re happy to have the mystery unveiled, but it kind of takes the edge off it. We’ve always thought of The STIG as this almost supernatural character and it’s hard to let go of the impression.

BBC has been giving Collins quite a hard time for his intent to publish his memoirs, but, in the end, someone had to take off The STIG’s helmet. I, for one, can’t wait to read that book and can’t wait to see how Top Gear is going to kill the white STIG after they’ve killed the black STIG back in late 2003.

I am aware that the STIG is a media phenomenon but this is poor journalism. The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and some other British newspapers suffer from a serious case of stupid printing.

The Stig hasn’t been confirmed by Top Gear and their crew so until then this sort of news is useless and has been going on for years.

IF, it gets confirmed by Top Gear then they’ll simply move on and perhaps change color of his suit and that’s that.
