In my mind, Renault has never been something other than an honest, quite reliable, cute family car brand. Of course, the Megane did have a bit of an edge, but I never thought they would be more daring than that. It seems, though, that they’re looking to give a new styling direction to the brand and so they’ve created a mind-blasting concept car, named Renault DeZir.

I have to admit that I love the new brand philosophy that states that it want to create a ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm’ car. This beautiful, edgy and extravagant car is nothing short of the expectations that we didn’t even have of Renault. Scissor doors, a rear window replaced by two cameras that produce a panoramic rearward view for the driver and an interior fitted with a one-piece bench trimmed in contrasting white leather, designed to represent the attraction between two people give it a spaceship look. Under the bonnet, there’s a 24kWh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, fed to a 148bhp mid-mounted electric motor that will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 180 km/h.

Although the concepts used in the making of the Renault DeZir are sure to be integrated in the future Renault models, there are no rumors yet concerning the production of the DeZir. What I can say is that Renault has done a splendid job with this concept car and we’re looking forward to seeing more of this new brand direction!
